In this day and age, many homes still have an old style fuse board which do not have MCB (Miniature Circuit Breakers) and the latest 10 way 17th Edition Dual RCD (Residential Current Devices) so therefore need to be upgraded for the safety of your household.

MCB (Miniature Circuit Breakers) are fitted to the newer consumer units to replace the old type fuses with wires. So for instance if you are at home and suddenly the lights go out you would normally have to check every switch in the house to identify the problem. With the MCB all you need to do is check your fuse box and you will notice either a button or a lever that is the opposite way to the others and the label will tell you what area the fault is in. When the MCB usually trips it is because something has overloaded the circuit or that a short circuit has occurred somewhere in the household.

RCD (Residential Current Device) is a safety device that switches off electricity automatically if there is a fault within the building. RCDs are installed into the fusebox and can provide protection to individual or group of circuits. They provide you with the highest level of protection as it constantly protects all sockets on a circuit and any connected appliances.

You can rely on fixed RCD protection to reduce the risk of electric shock to you, your family or anyone on your property. Also you can reduce the risk of damage being caused to your property by faulty wiring or appliances.
