Periodic Inspection Reports

Periodic Inspection Reports

For those businesses undertaking Periodic Inspection Reports on domestic, industrial or commercial properties, we recommend our Approved Contractor Scheme.

Enrolment on the scheme provides electrical contractors who perform NICEIC Periodic Inspection Reporting recognition of their skills. Upon enrolment with NICEIC your business will be included in the roll of Approved Contractors, which is used by householders, landlords and other specifiers.

Periodic Inspection reports is the inspection of the condition of an existing electrical installation, identifying in order of priority any deficiencies against the national safety standard for electrical installations.

Periodic Inspection Reports will:

  • Reveal if any electrical circuits or equipment is overloaded
  • Find any potential shock and fire hazards in the installation
  • Identify any defective DIY electrical work
  • Highlight any lack of earthing or bonding

Tests are also carried out on wiring and associated fixed electrical equipment to check that it is safe and a schedule of circuits is developed during the inspection.

Who is the DPIR Scheme applicable to?

The DPIR Scheme is open to any electrical contractor that has achieved NICEIC Domestic Installer status who wishes to extend their scope of approval. DPIR work requires a high level of competence and applicants must have extensive knowledge and experience of electrical installations and related regulations. Applicants must also have sound knowledge of testing procedures, test values and a thorough understanding of Periodic Inspection Report compilation.

Electrical installations are affected by many factors – age, use, and weather damage such as damp and heat. A thorough inspection on a regular basis will prevent major faults and offer you complete peace of mind.

Tests are also carried out on wiring and associated fixed electrical equipment to check that it is safe and a schedule of circuits is developed during the inspection.
